19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a torrid year, managing just one match at the big events and undergoing a setback at the US Open.
The player's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - resulted in him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time coach his previous coach.
Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from March of that year.
Victory also indicates the Russian has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct events.
"It's the first time I'm at a event with my children at once, so to get a title is really nice," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This victory is in tribute of my child my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had lost his past six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.
His counter-punching play style and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had led observers to question if his skill to play at the top level was over.
However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, reinforced by an better serving game.
Medvedev recovered from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Moutet, taking 4 of the final five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to force a final set.
He defended four early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.
Suitably, Medvedev secured the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to control a return after a lengthy match.
